EVENING SUPPER/DRINKS at Bankes Arms Studland - Wednesday 17th July

No advance booking necessary

Meet at Bankes Arms Studland for drinks/snack/meal between 19:00 and 19:30 on Wednesday 17th July, hopefully in the outside area, and hopefully in basking evening sunshine with fine views towards Old Harry Rocks. No need to book in advance, just turn up on the night at whatever time suits you and order from the extensive menu, or just stay for a drink. I will lead a walk from Ballard Stores in North Swanage starting at 17:30 - along the coast path via Old Harry to reach Studland between the above times.

Walkers will need to make their own way back to Swanage either by bus (departures from Knoll Hotel bus stop at about 20:34 or 21:34) or perhaps arrange a lift with a non-walker.  It would be appreciated if any non-walkers who are arriving by car can offer lifts back to Swanage; please let me know if you are able to do this.

Another new destination for the annual coach outing. Having completed all the historic cites of the South West over the last few years, we are now embarking on a tour of the larger coastal towns. Last year’s trip to Lyme Regis is followed this year by an outing to Weston Super Mare. Bryan and Caroline have kindly offered to lead a walk from Brean Down into Weston Super Mare. The walk is mostly flat and there are toilet and refreshment opportunities, although it is recommended that you bring a picnic lunch. Please bring some 20p pieces for the toilets!. The coach will drop those who wish to do the walk at Brean Down and then go on to Weston. The total length of the walk is 6.5 miles but there is the opportunity to catch a bus to the centre of Weston Super Mare at Brean Village after 2 miles ,or Uphill after 4.5 miles (First Bristol No.20 runs every 30 minutes).

As an alternative to the walk members may wish to spend the time in the town, perhaps visiting the recently restored Grand Pier and Pavilion, or perhaps visit Grove Village cultural quarter with its range of unique retail boutiques and cafes. There may also be some shorter self-guided walks to do. Our visit coincides with a food festival, which promises cooking demonstrations, food stalls etc.

The coach will start from Ballard Stores, Swanage at 08:00, picking up at Gilbert Road at 08:05, the bus stop in Herston  at 08:10, Harmans Cross at 08:15, Corfe Castle (East Street bus stop) at 08:20, Wareham Railway station (north side) at 08:35, and in Dorchester Road, Upton (bus stop opposite Marsh Lane) at 08:45.

We will leave Weston Super Mare at  about 17:00.

Cost = £12:00 per person. Deadline for Bookings is 31st August, but please book with Steve Williams. Early booking is recommended to ensure a place on the coach as this outing will also be offered to other local groups.
