Puddletown and Tincleton

Park and meet in the Square, near St Mary’s Church, Puddletown. A varied and interesting walk of 6 miles with woodland and open views. Some modest hills, a few stiles, accumulated height gain 600 ft. Can be muddy in places if weather poor. Opportunity for refreshments after the walk at the nearby Blue Vinny pub, in the garden if weather is good.

POOLE HARBOUR TRAIL WAREHAM

Park in Bestwall Rd,at end of East Street. Meet at junction with Bestwall Cresent. Lovely walk following Poole Harbour trail, including 2 lakes and alongside River Frome. Flat walk, minimum stiles. May be muddy.

Wareham to Corfe Castle linear walk

Meet at Wareham Quay. (Use no 40 bus, or park on Worgret Road or Stowell Cres - SY 918 871 - BH20 4PX - 5 min walk from start point). Walk begins by following the river to Ridge. Further on we cross Stoborough Heath, before going over the railway. We continue across Creech Heath and go into Furzebrook. Finally, a path leads to the bottom of the chalk ridge to Corfe.
Take no 40 bus back to Swanage or Wareham after the walk.

BERE REGIS TO TURNERS PUDDLE AND BRIANTSPUDDLE

Meet at Bere Regis public car park behind church. Walk up and over Black Hill. A gentle climb through woods to open views. Arrive at Turners Puddle and quickly view old church before crossing 2 pretty fords to walk to Briantspuddle then ascend to open fields and slightly more climbing again with open views bringing us back into Shitterton and returning to car park. Parts of this walk will be muddy if there has been heavy rain.

Meet and park in the car park of The Sly Fox pub in Osmington (permission given). Circular walk up White Horse Hill, to Sutton Poyntz and then coastal path back to Osmington. A couple of moderate climbs, and a couple of stiles. Option to go for a drink after the walk.

SWANAGE to CORFE CASTLE “FLYING SCOTSMAN” WALK

Meet at Mowlem theatre Swanage for a linear walk along the valley, criss-crossing the railway. Walk via Herston camp-site, Windmill Knapp, New Barn, Wilkswood Farm, Haycrafts Farm, Woodyhyde Camp-site, Sandyhills Copse. Return to Swanage by bus and/or join me for refreshments in Corfe Castle.

NOTE:-The famous steam locomotive “The Flying Scotsman” will be operating trains on the Swanage railway on this day and the time and start of the walk are chosen to avoid crowds at the station, but also to observe the first departure at 10:05. Hopefully we will see it in action several times on our walk.

ACTON, PRIEST’S WAY, COASTAL PATH, LANGTON

Take No 40 bus from Swanage Railway Station (10:00) or No 40 from Wareham Railway Station (10:04), or park at Acton NT car park (honesty box). At Acton we join the Priest’s Way then walk south to the top coastal path (stunning views along the south coast in both directions), we walk east towards Durlston, north towards Belle Vue Farm, west along the Priest’s Way to Verney Farm, then north west towards Langton and back to Acton.

Park with consideration at Acton carpark. Walk through Castle View, Quarr Farm, onto Wilkswood Farm. Cross A351 to New Barn and up to Windmill Knap for coffee break. Down Piggy Lane and back across railway line and  A351 up to towards Langton Matravers. Passing around the village and back to Acton. Some road walking.
