Swanage Walking Group Programme

 “SPRING”
March 2019 to June 2019

Rob’s Ramble

Although we are well into the New Year I would like to take the opportunity to wish a happy, healthy and injury free 2019 to all SWWG members. It’s good to see that at least some of you have made a New Year resolution to get out there and get fit, as despite some wet weather and the absence of the Sandbanks chain ferry we have had very good turnouts on walks.

I hope those that attended will agree with me that the Christmas lunch at the Purbeck Golf Club was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow walkers in a relaxed social setting while enjoying some excellent food. A big thank you to Steve Williams for organising it so well – no mean feat given that we had such good attendance.

It has been great to see new walk leaders come forward over the last couple of programmes, please do keep it up! We really appreciate it.  It not only makes the burden less for the other walk leaders but is also interesting to have new walks or slightly different walks in the programme.

Over recent times we have managed to deliver a programme of 2 walks per week and we hope to be able to keep that going for the future. We also hope to include some shorter walks in the next couple of programmes. If they are well supported we will consider making them a regular feature in the programme, perhaps on a different day of the week. This is of course depends on members proposing the walks!

Regarding essential organisational matters, having discussed insurance cover at the last couple of AGMs, your committee has now taken out independent insurance cover for the group rather than taking insurance via HF Holidays. This will be discussed in more detail at the next AGM.

While on the subject of the AGM I can advise you that the 2019 AGM will be held at All Saints Church Hall on Monday 29th April. I hope that a lot of you will be able to attend. The AGM will slot into a bring and share supper (or is it the other way round!!). We try to make it a “social” as much as a “business” event. Drinks will be provided but we ask members to bring a plate of “finger” food to be shared. Please note: the finger food should not be thrown at committee members!

Do put the date into your diary. Further details of the AGM are given later in these pages.

We are a sturdy bunch but inclement weather can make us change plans sometimes at the last minute. If there are weather warnings or things look bad outside your window please check your e-mail early on the day of the walk to see if there is a cancellation or amendment, and for those members not on e-mail please contact the walk leader for further information.

And now to end my rambling a terrible pun worthy of a space in any Christmas cracker ….

On a recent walk I came across two talking stones. The first stone was big but shy. The other was a little boulder.

I hope you enjoy the Spring Programme and most of all keep walking!
