SWANAGE TOWN & COUNTRY

Meet at Swanage Railway Station. Take route via Town Hall and Sunshine Walk towards Durlston Country Park and Durlston Castle. Return to Swanage via coastal path and Peveril Point. May be muddy in places if recent rain.

CORFE CASTLE, KINGSTON, HILL BOTTOM CIRCULAR

Meet at NT Visitors CP. (Parking for non-NT members at base of Castle on Church Knowle Road). Walk to Corfe square, Corfe Common, to B3069 above Kingston. Cross to track next to Spyway Barn house, Purbeck Way, descending through Coombe Bottom, to Hill Bottom for a break. Take track towards Kingston, then across fields to Corfe Common and West Street.

All welcome for tea & cake at Steve & Chris's (53 West Street). Moderate climbs up from Hill Bottom to Kingston. Several stiles, may be some muddy patches. Toilets available at Scott Arms if required.

Worth & St ALDHELM’S HEAD

Meet at Worth Matravers car park. Head to coast at Winspit. West along coastal path past St Aldhelm’s Head returning to Worth via Weston Farm. Steep steps down (+/- 200) and up (+/- 200) after St Aldhelm’s. Leader will head to Square and Compass after walk. Everyone is welcome to join him. Option to avoid steps by returning directly to Worth from St Aldhelm’s.

Park in road near The Martyrs Inn, Tolpuddle, and meet under the Martyrs Tree on the green. Circular, mainly level walk via farmland and woods, Some open views. Could be muddy if recent rain.

Hod hill & hambledon hill

Park under trees on LHS of road to Child Okeford, 0.4m from its junction with A350. N.b. limited parking, please share cars. A walk around these two exposed hill fort homes of the ancient Brits. Fine views over surrounding country. About 850 feet of long steady climbing but well worth it.

SWANAGE to CORFE CASTLE RAILWAY WALK

Meet at Swanage RaIlway Station for a linear walk along the Purbeck valley, criss-crossing the railway. Walk via Herston camp-site, Windmill Knapp, New Barn, Wilkswood Farm, Haycrafts Farm, Woodyhyde Camp-site and Sandyhills Copse. Return to Swanage by bus or train, or join me for refreshments in Corfe Castle. (Walkers from Wareham direction may wish to park in Corfe Castle NT car park and catch 09:15 No.40 bus to Swanage for start of the walk - I will await arrival of the bus before starting the walk).

Fontmell Down, Compton Abbas VILLAGE

Start at Fontmell Down NT CP (free parking - limited spaces so please car share). Alternative parking on triangle at approach to airfield. A downland walk with fine views over Cranborne Chase and Blackmoor Vale. Some hills and descents + Compton Abbas Village and Church. Suggestion for those who wish after the walk to end with refreshments at Compton Abbas Airfield.

CHURCH KNOWLE, COCKNOWLE AND KIMMERIDGE

Meet at Sheeps Pen car park, Kingston (1 mile west of Kingston church). Across fields to Animal Sanctuary in Church Knowle. Up through Cocknowle to pick up ridge. Down close to Whiteway Farm on towards Kimmeridge. Back along Smedmore Hill to car park. Hills either side of the valley and stiles. Stoney muddy route between fields. Two climbs and stiles.
